This September, we’re raising awareness about addiction recovery and celebrating the individuals whose lives have been transformed on their journey toward recovery.
Men of Nehemiah is not just another addiction recovery center. We are a Christ-centered organization that exists to rebuild the lives of men who have been torn apart by drug and alcohol addiction. We serve each man and his family as he is restored to the person God has created him to be, reunited with his family and community.
Addiction Recovery That Works
Our unique model combines the latest research-backed clinical services with compassionate spiritual care and a one-of-a-kind military structure. Since 2010, we have served more than 1,500 men, and our holistic model is proven to get results. 87% of the men who have completed our nine-month program and continue in our sober living after-care community have beendrug and alcohol-free for a year.
Heart of Worship
This year, our campaign theme is “Heart of Worship.” When men arrive at Men of Nehemiah, their hearts are broken by addiction. Over time, through our clinical services, Biblical discipleship, and unique military structure, their hearts are transformed into hearts of worship towards God.
This North Texas Giving Day, our goal is to raise $200,000. We invite you to explore the powerful stories below and consider making a gift of support to help us bring more hope and healing to men battling addiction.
Before he came to Men of Nehemiah, Charles's life was chaotic. "I was accountable to no one. I was irresponsible and reckless. I was just existing."
“I was living a life without purpose.”
He was attracted to the lifestyle of the streets. "I wanted a chain, a car, a pretty girl. These were the idols I chased deep into my adulthood."
"Finally, I met some men of God at Men of Nehemiah who made following the Lord so attractive. I really bought into the worship. God has put so many young men in my life, and for the first time, it feels like my life has a purpose. I want to make being a man of God attractive to these young men."
“For the first time, it feels like my life has a purpose...When I get an opportunity to praise God, I go bananas.”
"There's something that's happened to me," Charles said. "When I get an opportunity to praise God, I go bananas. If you understood what God has brought me out of, you'd understand why I worship the way I worship."
"I'm so excited about my future. My plan is to go back to school to become a substance abuse counselor."
"If you understood what God has brought me out of, you'd understand why I worship the way I worship."
"Everything I went through—it wasn't about me. It's about extending a hand to help others. I'm excited to see where God is going to take me.”
Ray grew up in a very abusive family. His dad, who ended up getting sent to prison for 45 years.
"I always felt like no one loved me," Ray said. At just 8 years old, he found himself in his first drug bust with a family member on the news.
"I always felt like no one loved me."
Ray followed in his dad's footsteps, and by 13, he landed in juvenile detention. He got addicted to drugs and did several stints in prison.
Eventually, with the help of his sister, Ray came to Men of Nehemiah. As of August 20, he's been five months clean and sober.
"When you go to prison, you feel the tension in the air. With these guys, you feel love."
"These guys here—I love them and they love me," he said. "When you go to prison, you feel the tension in the air. With these guys here, you feel love."
"I surrendered my life to the Lord and got baptized...I'm a changed man."
"I surrendered my life to the Lord on June 28 and got baptized. I can honestly say I love it, knowing I’m a changed man. With these guys behind me, I’ll grow stronger.”
From a Heart of Stone to a Heart of Worship: Victor's Story
Before Victor came to Men of Nehemiah, he was at rock bottom. His mom had died when he was a baby and his dad had been addicted to drugs. As an adult, Victor "lost everything" and ended up living on the streets.
"I had the hardest heart ever. I was mad at God. I didn't even want to live. I remember walking across a bridge and thinking, ‘Why not? What's the use?’ I don't know what stopped me. It had to have been God."
"I had the hardest heart ever...I didn't even want to live."
Eventually, Victor landed at Men of Nehemiah and began to experience a profound life and heart change.
This program, man. I love everyone here. When I first walked in here, all I heard was, ‘We love you.’ And I'm like, ‘Yeah right.’ But they really do love you."
“I love to worship. That's my life—singing praises to God. And that's all this place does is sing and worship God.”

Mission
Men of Nehemiah is a Christian organization that exists to rebuild the lives of men who have been torn apart by the effects of drug and alcohol addiction. We serve each man as he is restored to the person God created him to be, reunited with his family and his community.
The Men of Nehemiah's primary mission, core philosophy, and goal for our men is to get them into a real, meaningful, effective relationship with Jesus Christ.
Men of Nehemiah serves men with addictive orders by providing residential accommodations, treatment and therapy, life-skills, job training, job placement, spiritual classes, and an array of recovery support services.
Needs
1) SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NINE-MONTH RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAM
Our model of change begins in our Core Residential Program, an intensive nine-month onsite residency that rebuilds a man's mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical walls destroyed by addiction. In addition to these model of change components, men also participate in case management, job placement training and educational opportunities, and preparation for re-entry into society.
With over 85% of our men coming to us as homeless, we rely on the generosity of donors and community partners to provide the comprehensive treatment and Biblical discipleship needed for real transformation and recovery from addiction.
2) FAMILY COUNSELING PROGRAM
Our family counseling program increases family members’ understanding of the addiction cycle so they can better communicate with loved ones and establish healthy boundaries. Many times the family’s behavior and lack of knowledge about addiction contributes to the cycle of addiction for the addict. Having family members who can better support an addict and demonstrate healthy behavior and communication are important factors in recovery for our men.
