Miracle League of North Texas

A nonprofit organization

Baseball is a beloved sport! Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to participate. The Mission of Miracle League of North Texas is to remove barriers that prevent individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities from experiencing the joy, camaraderie, and benefits of playing baseball - achieved through a Buddy System where athletes are matched with non-disabled peers and volunteers from surrounding communities. While we cannot alter the medical and cognitive challenges that children and adults with disabilities encounter, Miracle League of North Texas can offer help by providing support that will give these individuals the opportunity to experience playing our National pastime - BASEBALL!

Having a disability often means children have to not only cope with being sick and the challenges of a disability, but also with the feeling of being different, isolated, or invisible. Miracle League of North Texas allows children to no longer sit on the sidelines cheering their siblings and peers, but to participate on the playing field and realize that they are not so different after all. As James Earl Jones said in Field of Dreams, "The one constant through all the years has been baseball." CJ Stroud put it best when he said, "Basketball players wanna be football players and football players wanna be basketball players and we all wanna play baseball." That is the goal of Miracle League of North Texas...to give all children and adults the opportunity to play baseball regardless of their level and/or disability. Currently, after just three years, Miracle League of North Texas has over one hundred athletes ranging from the ages of 2 to 50. Below is a picture worth a thousand words, as it shows the miracle behind Miracle League of North Texas. The young man on the right (#21) is 35 years old, has Down Syndrome, and is legally blind. He loves to play baseball, but over the years his disability has prevented it. The young man on the left (#17) is around 8 years old. He has volunteered with Miracle League of North Texas to be a Buddy. The bond built between these two and others who participate with Miracle League of North Texas is undeniable. Jeff Fisher, Executive Director and founder of Miracle League of North Texas, summed it up by saying, "The impact of starting a baseball league for special needs kids boils down to two words: pure joy!"
