The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving celebrates its 37th season in 2024-25. This year we're excited that the orchestra can again carry out our scheduled series of five Sunday afternoon classical concerts at the Irving Arts Center - "Sundays at the Symphony" - from October through May, each to be recorded and made available with links on our website - www.npoirving.com - and on our YouTube page.

This season, we'll add a performance during the Christmas holidays in Dallas and two special evening performances for Irving middle school students just beginning their own orchestra studies.

Performing on Sunday afternoons at the Irving Arts Center, we're often the first place families - and students - discover classical music. For many, through our "First Tickets" program, funded in part by a gift from a CFT donor-directed fund, it may be literally their first experience of going into a concert hall with their family (on a free First Tickets family pass), and discovering the magic of classical music. And we're keeping all box office ticket prices affordable.  Ticket prices are not going up this season!

We pioneered in this area in presenting music of the Americas, beginning in 2009 with our "Latino Connections!" series. Our conductor and music director, Dr. Sergio Espinosa, is an international authority on the music of Mexican composers.  This season we'll continue to present this music with a wider geographic scope, as our community continues to be called one of the most diverse in the nation.  More than 70% of Irving ISD's students in some recent years have been Hispanic.

We're a growing resource for Irving schools, public and private. Since our founding in 1988, we've made it a priority to work with area students. Today, we do that each season through a side-by-side concert, where students share a stand and perform with players; a concerto competition for high school musicians, offering the opportunity to solo with the orchestra and a monetary prize; and "First Tickets," introducing middle school orchestra students (and their families) to a symphony orchestra.

Our Needs

We'll celebrate our 37th anniversary with a full season of "Sundays at the Symphony" at the Irving Arts Center.  To help fund these five Sunday afternoon concerts and three additional performances in Dallas and Irving, we are fortunate to have a growing endowment.  But we do know that Giving Day funds will be more important to us than ever this season.

Funds will be needed for normal orchestra costs - music licensing, soloists and guest artists, facility rental for concert-half concerts and rehearsals, and needed technical crews.  Our ticket income, never the largest segment of our annual budget,  is still returning to pre-pandemic levels for in-person concert attendance in the Irving Arts Center's 700-seat concert hall.  But audiences are returning, growing each season.

Your donations on Giving Day will allow us continue and expand our educational efforts and help cover costs of professionally recording each performance.  These concert recordings offer free - and worldwide - online access to symphonic music to music lovers, schools and the public.  And as always, your Giving Day funds will make it possible for us to continue and expand our live "Sundays at the Symphony" concerts at the Irving Arts Center from October through May in this exciting 37th season.  Your continued support is needed, and appreciated!

Mission

The mission of the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving (NPOI) is to enhance the cultural arts of north Texas by offering high-quality orchestral performances to the community at affordable prices and providing a classical repertoire that fosters and challenges local musicians to their utmost abilities.

Needs

Each season we need funds to license contemporary works, or commission new works. And we've been asked to expand our "First Tickets" program to include not just middle schools in Irving, but neighboring school districts and younger age groups as well.

Your funds can help us underwrite our 37th season, and costs of new ventures like these, as we serve this area in the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, with "Sundays at the Symphony."

Equity Statement

Our orchestra's board and personnel reflect the diversity of the Irving community, and our orchestra membership and concerts are open to all.
