Remembering Black Dallas has a diverse ethnic membership of members who volunteer and work within the community to educate the community of Dallas' past in many ways: through living museums of noted local early pioneers of Dallas, documenting the unwritten history of Dallas' history through oral history interviews, applying for local state landmarks annually, awarding college scholarships, working with preservation organizations to preserve historic sites, serving as the home base for African American resources for the City of Dallas and African American issues and community, crafting annual publications of Dallas' history, convening panel discussions of various topics as it relates to cross-cultural and cross-racial relationships and healing, hosting a biannually state conference, and facilitating educational tours of North Texas and national sites that illuminate historic African-American history and landmarks.

Mission

Mission Statement: Remembering Black Dallas, Inc. preserves, promotes, and advocates for the African American life, history, artifacts, and culture of Dallas and its surrounding suburban cities. We also engage with other ethnic groups and actively facilitate ongoing meaningful forums and programs.

Needs

Funding is greatly needed for ongoing bus tours, a scholarship program, oral history documentation of elders as it relates to Dallas' history, culture, race relationships, and preservation of local artifacts and documentation, purchase of historical markers, publications, and theater productions. Also, funding is needed to support programs done in partnership with the Dallas County EJI (Equal Justice Initiative) to host speakers, management of public forums, memorial presentations, and marker dedications.

Equity Statement

Remembering Black Dallas is committed to advancing equity to fulfill its mission and achieve the vision of our late founder, Dr. George Keaton.

Our mission is to preserve, promote, and advocate for the African American life, history, artifacts, and culture of Dallas and its surrounding communities. We accomplish this through partnerships that engage other ethnic groups and community organizations.

RBD believes that all community members:

• should be treated with respect and dignity.

• should have equitable access to opportunities to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

• should feel that they and their contributions are welcome, safe, and accepted.

We dedicate ourselves to working with people of all backgrounds, races, and ethnicities to uncover and share Dallas's Black history so that--together--we can shape and create a thriving community for all.
