Richardson Reads One Book (RROB) is a 501(c)(3) focused on bringing the residents of the City of Richardson together over the common bond and love of reading. Founded in 1984, the mission of RROB is to build community participation in an annual program that selects and reads one particular book that is carefully chosen for its general interest as well as for its timely, thought-provoking issues; and to encourage citizens of our diverse community to come together to discuss the book and the issues it raises.
Through individual and corporate donations and the support of foundations, we bring the chosen author to Richardson for a series of in-person events to present and discuss the chosen book for audiences in various settings to gain insights into the writing process, story, and characters of the book.
Leading up to the author's events, we also provide educational, musical, and cultural programs to enhance and support the story through a partnership with the Richardson Public Library.
Mission
Richardson Reads One Book cultivates community through the shared experience of reading and discussing important topics with an annual book selection and programming culminating in an author lecture, student workshop, and luncheon.
Needs
Donations to cover the speaking and travel fees for the nationally recognized author, events, promotional activities, and community programs impacting over 3,000 participants annually.
