Three powerful words, “Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Rehome,” have served as the Straydog mantra for more than 25 years. Straydog is commited to rescuing homeless and abandoned dogs and caring for them in a no-kill environment until each is adopted; and to act as a sanctuary for those dogs who are never adopted.
In December 1997, Pat and Bill Arnold, with a heart and passion for rescues, formed Straydog, Inc. - an organization like no other! Pat and her small team established new standards for rescue dogs by providing personalized care for each pup in the shelter. As a result, Straydog has grown to be recognized and respected as an organization true to its mission – a no-kill dog rescue and sanctuary with this exceptional approach.
Fast forward to 2023, while our core values have remained the same, our impact and reach have grown to accommodate more than 160 dogs on any given day. Yet, the Straydog mission continues, built on the pillars of the organization that include a dedicated board, a staff of loving caregivers, and a circle of volunteers who, along with our supporters, guide Straydog as we continue this never-ending journey.
Our Needs
All Straydog rescues are provided any necessary veterinary care including shots, heart worm treatment and spay/neuter. All of the dogs are fed a balanced quality diet at least twice a day, while some receive prescription or special diets to ensure their well-being. The daily routine for each rescue provides personal care giver attention, loving, timely walks, park time and of course great treats. In addition the shelter provides around the clock care giving 24/7 365 days a year.
The 24/7 love and care provided by staff to the rescue and sanctuary residents is budgeted at $80,000/month. Generous animal-loving humans are needed to support the operating fund to ensure the mission is fulfilled now and in the future. Your time (volunteer), treasure (one-time or monthly gift) and/or talent (professional service) is needed to support the many needs of our beloved rescues!
