The Dallas (TX) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated has been at the helm of numerous vital community service programs in Dallas since November 9, 1957. In 2012, the Dallas (TX) Chapter established its STEAM Academy with a goal to increase women of color in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts & Math (STEAM) professions.
The STEAM Academy engages 7th to 12th grade female scholars of color to:
- Cultivate self-confidence, communication, critical thinking, and leadership capabilities
- Provide exposure to exciting activities that promote and support innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills
- Increase STEAM awareness and career readiness
- Empower them to complete a STEAM college education and compete in the global STEAM workforce
To date, the STEAM Academy has touched the lives of over 600 girls who have participated in the program for at least one year. 90% of the Dallas Links STEAM Academy graduate scholars have attended a four-year college or university and have pursued a STEAM related major or career.
Annually, the Dallas (TX) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated awards scholarships to deserving college-bound young men and women of color. The Chapter has proudly awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to 501 graduating seniors from local schools.
