Which of these educators deserves to do the work with joy?How much are we willing to invest in her heart and mind so she can share her love of learning with all her students?Learning leaders need support! What will we give to enable these educators to keep their hearts and minds alive for learning and growing?

Which of these children deserve an education that can help enable them to achieve the true form of their lives?

We like to say that one size doesn't fit all, but in this case, it does!

ALL children--especially those who are historically underserved in our public schools--need and deserve an education that helps them lay the foundation for life both as an individual and as a member of the communities that democracy requires.

At The MacMillan Institute, we have four decades' experience providing distinctive professional development that equips schoolteachers and administrators, all the way up to and including superintendents, with transformative learning events and classes that equip them to provide all our public-school children with an education that liberates them in their own fulness as human beings.

Based on the inspiring educational philosophy of Drs. Louise and Donald Cowan, The MacMillan Institute was created to prepare public school teachers and administrators at all levels to learn, teach, and lead in what Donald Cowan called the “spirit of liberal learning,” a spirit that liberates the heart and mind for opportunities of growth and achievement, for true excellence.

We must do better by ALL our public-school school students and give them the opportunities that have always been reserved for children in elite private schools.

At The MacMillan Institute, we know how to do it! We know how to educate teachers and public school leaders so that they can provide EVERY child in America with a top-tier education.

Mission

We advance our mission with three pillars of support for public school educators and public school systems: distinctive, human-centered trainings and certifications for public school educators at all levels and academic disciplines; a versatile, trademarked Academy model; and a distinctive, trademarked Pre-K—12 humanities curriculum for all public school children that may be licensed to use in our Academy models.

Needs

Although members of The MacMillan Institute team have forty years' experience in this work, we are a start-up in Southern Dallas County, having opened our doors in Duncanville in March 2023, where opportunities for high-quality professional development are lacking.

We are growing a new constituency of Southern Dallas County public school educators! However, school districts in Southern Dallas County generally lack the resources that larger districts enjoy, so we need support to provide these educators with high quality professional development like their colleagues in the larger districts enjoy.

Program sponsorships are needed for everything from teacher and principal conferences to symposia for superintendents from around the area and the state of Texas.

Our cornerstone courses are our intensive Summer Seminars, programs that have been transforming primary and secondary teachers' and administrators' lives since 1984, including the key MacMillan Institute staff! Scholarships for the able educators in Southern Dallas County will help them begin their journey of learning joy, a journey that will change the lives of the educators and then the lives of all their students for years to come. Help us change lives!

Equity Statement

Our motto is "Equity Through Excellence." EVERY child in America, beginning with the most underserved students in our public schools, deserves and needs an education that equips them for fulfilling lives as individuals and as participating members of the communities that democracy requires. We must do better by our children in the public schools, providing those who have been marginalized with the kind of education that liberates them into fulness.

WE KNOW HOW TO DO IT! At The MacMillan Institute, we have forty years' experience educating public school teachers and administrators so they can provide all our public-school students with this kind of education.
