The Art Centre Theatre

A nonprofit organization

To date we have serviced more than 175,000 citizens of the Plano & surrounding areas through; performances, workshops,
classes and outreach program. Every person who comes through our doors has the opportunity to call ACT their home. We
offer skill classes, private instruction, life learning opportunities, & acting experiences for everyone, regardless of experience
level or abilities. 10 years ago, ACT began offering acting classes to those interested in honing their skills as an actor. To
citizens of Plano, these classes are offered at a deep discount. For the last 5 years ACT has provided space monthly for
blossoming writers to have their works read aloud (staged readings) at no cost. This popular series has provided free space &
theater use for more than 62 works in the last 8 years. Within the last 5 years, ACT has added a dance and art program to its
roster. These programs allow us to expand our reach and influence to individuals who have a desire to create but no interest in
acting; incorporating them in set design, found-space performances and expositions, providing an outlet for expression to a
whole different category of talent previously untouched by our stage programs. 6 years ago, ACT also started a youth touring
group, ACT TOURS, providing part-time employment for home-school youth of age, touring to more than 80 schools, daycares,
churches, adult living facilities, fairs, park. All the while, teaching kids the value of live theater and the skills needed to
achieve it. Through the Plano Court system and in partnership with the TCA, ACT has funded a program to teach juvenile
offenders and young adults acting and performance skills; often providing temporary employment. Our main goal are to
encourage; recognition of Plano as an arts destination, awareness of the arts in underserved communities, art initiatives
