Needs
This past year was turbulent for many of the resilient kids and caregivers we serve, and we found ourselves covering the costs of emergency things that don’t have a place in our budget.
We can’t always anticipate the unique types of emergent needs and barriers survivors may have, so for the last few years, we created a line item in our budget that became known as the “Blue Line”—an Emergency Fund.
A heightened influx of emergency needs this year has depleted our emergency fund, and now, more than ever, we need your help to replenish these crucial resources.
As Advocates encounter major urgent needs of the survivors they serve, we discuss the needs collaboratively and ask, “Is this a Blue Line item?” Our leaders make the call. Thanks to our Emergency Fund, we have been able to say “Yes” to special circumstances and offer assistance to survivors and their families when they've needed it most.
Examples of emergency needs we have been able to meet with this fund include:
- Mattresses, refrigerators
- Flights and travel expenses to help survivors return home or urgently relocate
- emergency housing for kids and families experiencing homelessness
- Expert legal assistance
- Childcare assistance
- Emergency medical care
- Specialized residential treatment (for trafficking, mental health and/or substance misuse)
When you give for North Texas Giving Day, you will refuel our Blue Line Emergency Fund, and ensure the 300 kids and caregivers we serve continue receiving the emergency care they desperately need.
