Wise County Committee on Aging, Inc., (Meals on Wheels Wise County TX) is a non-profit 501-(C)(3) group which provides hot, nourishing meals to 125+ senior citizens who are unable to prepare meals for themselves or who do not have others to do so for them. More Seniors are being added to the program every month as the number of Seniors with needs grows daily. The daily contact with our VOLUNTEERS, as well as the nutritious meals, allow frail, homebound seniors to remain in their own homes where they can maintain their independence. For some of the clients, the daily well-check and the love and concern shared by our VOLUNTEERS are the only contacts they have with the rest of the world.

We provide health and nutritional information through our monthly newsletter, and we assist them with referrals for any other services they may need. By providing them a copy of the local newspaper, our group helps keep them connected to the rest of the community in which they live.

We also provide transportation for clients to the doctor's office, pharmacy, grocery store, beauty shop, etc. to meet their individual needs.

Our Needs:

A Building for the Organization Plus Ongoing Funding & Volunteers!

Our greatest need right now is truly a new facility where we can cook our meals, serve congregate meals on a daily basis and have both our administrative staff and our kitchen staff in one location, along with all of our vehicles.  Currently we have our kitchen in an old elementary school building in Chico and our Main office and food distribution center is in Decatur.  We do not have our own site to serve congregate meals on a daily basis and have to rely on others to open up their facilities for that.

During the fall and winter, our expenses are higher and donations are lower. This is when our new contract for federal grants starts and over the last 3 years, the funding for the new contracts is very slow to start.

We rely heavily on volunteers to deliver food to all of our client's in the county, and without them we would not be able to feed as many seniors as we do.

Mission

To provide visionary leadership and to develop partnerships to promote the dignity and independence of our elderly seniors by providing nutritious meals and quality services.
