Women In Need (WIN) has been a steadfast presence in Hunt, Rains, & Rockwall counties for over 40 years, embodying a legacy of hope and empowerment. Through these years, our journey has been one of growth and transformation, a testament to our unwavering commitment to uplift those in need. The demand for our life-saving services has surged, illuminating the essential role we play in guiding our clients from being victims to emerging as strong, independent survivors.

A cornerstone of Women In Need is our continuous availability, providing support 24/7 via phone and text. Our compassionate WIN Advocates are here to engage in conversations, guiding individuals towards their options with empathy and care. They offer vital information and lay out the steps that ensure safety.

Inclusion defines Women In Need. Despite our name, our services embrace all seeking refuge from harmful relationships. Recognizing 1 in 7 men as abuse victims, including physical, emotional, and financial abuse, we extend equal services. Our commitment is unwavering; our shelter is for women and their children, while men are guided to safe spaces or resource centers. At Women In Need, courage transcends discrimination.

Central to our mission is ensuring safety above all else. Our dedicated Legal Advocates at WIN work hand in hand with our clients, providing them with the necessary tools to secure protective orders and accompany them through legal proceedings. Our Advocates provide essential support groups, and we stand by our clients every step of the way.

Our shelter provides a nurturing environment, a respite, a space where survivors can catch their breath and initiate the process of building anew with an average shelter stay of 30-45 days. During this time, our dedicated WIN Advocates collaborate closely, guiding clients on a transformative journey from victim to survivor. Armed with courage and determination, survivors of domestic violence rebuild their lives under our care, often beginning with nothing but the strength it took to seek help.

At Women In Need, every survivor's story is unique, deserving of individualized care and attention. Our Advocacy Team expertly assesses the needs and risk factors, piecing together an individual plan for healing and renewal. The initial focus is on crisis intervention and management, addressing the trauma, fear, and overwhelming feeling that survivors face. Our priority is to foster trust and ensure safety, laying the foundation for brighter tomorrows. The path ahead is illuminated by resilience, hope, and the unwavering commitment of Women In Need to empower survivors on their journey to a violence-free life, change, and renewal of spirit.

Giving Activity

Mission

Women In Need is a multi-faceted domestic violence resource center that shelters, advocates and educates for a secure today and offers hope for a safer tomorrow.

Needs

We have a significant need for funding to sustain and enhance our services. While we are emerging from the challenges posed by the pandemic, instances of reported domestic and intimate partner violence continue to rise. The costs of running our shelter have experienced a substantial increase. Inflation and elevated prices for essential items such as groceries, fuel, clothing, and utilities have a direct impact on our ability to provide critical services and essential life necessities. Your support is crucial in enabling us to address these pressing needs and continue making a positive impact in our community.
