Zoo Crew empowers middle school youth to become conservation leaders!

Students are inspired to love and care for our 15 animals on campus at J.L. Long Middle School. Through the Zoo Crew program, we excite our youth as they care for the animals needs, as well as learn about their various habitats and ecosystems.

Mission

ZOO CREW provides an experience for middle school students to develop their leadership skills while furthering their science education by working with a variety of animals living on the J.L. Long campus. Through the ZOO CREW program, we excite our youth by caring for a wide range of animals including Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Turtles, Bearded Dragons and our friendly Snakes' daily needs; as well as learning about their various habitats and ecosystems. All of this is provided while in a supervised, safe and nurturing environment.

Science shows children who grow up with the responsibility of caring for animals helps develop key leadership skills. Humane education fosters empathy in individuals for all living creatures, while teaching them to appreciate, respect and help animals; whether companion, wild or farm. In doing so, the students are building leadership skills such as work ethic, adaptability, continued learning, networking and passion.
