Our Story

Nestled in the center of our small Texas town, our cherished library serves as a sanctuary for readers, a hub for information, a haven for local history buffs, and a gathering place for people of all ages. It’s more than just a building filled with books; it’s the heart of our community.

In collaboration with the City of Commerce, we've recently made significant progress in revitalizing our beloved library building. Thanks to a transformation grant from the Tocker Foundation, we have selected new furniture and shelving to infuse the space with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. While the grant has been instrumental, it did not cover the entire cost of the new furnishings. These updates are designed to enhance comfort and functionality for all who visit.

Yet, there is more work to be done. While the interior has been transformed, our exterior still needs some love and attention. The historic windows, which bathe our rooms in a soft, natural glow, are in urgent need of restoration. These windows are not just functional; they are integral to the library’s architectural charm and historical significance. Restoring them is crucial to preserving the character and beauty of our building.

Beyond this, we have dreams for the future. We hope to make the library a destination for all of the community–a place for all to learn, connect, read, and grow. To continue serving our community, we need help funding our essential services, including maintaining our collection of books, expanding digital resources, and hosting educational programs. These services are part of how we help the people of Commerce to thrive.

We also envision expanding our library’s place in the downtown revitalization by creating an inviting outdoor space in Authors’ Park. Picture a cozy patio where you can enjoy a book in the shade, sit out in the sun with your children at an outdoor storytime, enjoy an evening party under the cafe lights, or get your hands in the fresh earth through a gardening workshop under the open sky. To make this vision a reality, we plan to purchase outdoor furniture that will transform our library grounds into a vibrant, welcoming downtown courtyard for everyone.

But we can’t achieve this alone. We need your support to continue this journey of restoration and growth. Your generous contributions will allow us to:

  • Restore our historic windows, preserving the library’s beauty and heritage.

  • Maintain and expand our essential services, ensuring a welcoming face greets each person who comes in through our doors

  • Create a beautiful outdoor space where our community can gather, learn, and connect.

Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal. Together, we can breathe new life into our library, ensuring it remains a place of learning, inspiration, and community for generations to come.

Join us in restoring the heart of our community. With your help, we can keep our library thriving. Thank you for your support!
