Dallas Children's Theater is a family arts center and vibrant venue for artistic collaboration, uniting local artists, designers, playwrights, and educators in the pursuit of enriching theater for youth. Our organization believes the collective arts are a critical part of where we all live, work, and play and we are committed to taking on new challenges and collaborating with our peers to use the arts to positively impact our community—today and in the future.

Our carefully curated productions are engaging and educational each season, promoting social values and cultural diversity through casting and themes. Our dedication to this mission includes commissioning and developing new plays and including timeless stories, literary classics, histories, and biographies in our programming. As a performing arts organization understanding the importance of arts education, our programs and productions rely on the connectivity humans need and crave when they gather, the connectivity that comes with one-of-a-kind experiences that occur as part of live theater.

Recognized nationally and supported by respected groups and foundations, Dallas Children's Theater inspires young minds to contribute to the vibrancy of their communities through the art of theater. With your support, we can continue to connect communities and be creative in developing our work for our growing audiences, bringing important stories to life and supporting the arts in North Texas and beyond.

Mission

The mission of Dallas Children's Theater is to inspire young people to creative and productive lives through the art of theater. We accomplish our mission through a professional season of diverse, quality productions for youth and families and year-round education and outreach programs.

Needs

Our children need to be nourished in so many ways. Live performing arts are the best at fostering their creative spirits and expanding their learning capacity. Dallas Children’s Theater not only puts on professional quality productions for children and families across North Texas but also works to encourage education and creativity in as many children as possible. Our Academy and Teen Conservatory classes, Sensory-Friendly Performance Initiative, Curtains Up On Reading and Literacy programs, and more rely on contributions from the community to thrive. Help us continue to spark imaginations for generations to come.

Equity Statement

As an organization focused on children and families, 365 days a year, we know that each one has something amazing to give to the world. As one of the early entry points for many young children to see themselves and others on stage, we take seriously our responsibility to impress positive lifelong inspiration in them. The stories we offer onstage encourage kindness and acceptance, build self-esteem and teach other important life lessons.

We pledge to do our part to reflect and celebrate diversity and equity in our work, on our staff, and on our stages. We pledge to continue to ensure that all children see themselves on our stage and feel the sense of belonging and empowerment that naturally pours out from these transcendent moments. We also promise to use the power of theater to spark conversations about tough topics such as racism; exchanges that lead to positive communication, action, understanding, and change.

To our parents, we want to be a resource as you search for help in talking to your children about the abundant diversity that exists in our world. Through storytelling, thought-provoking conversation, and collaborating with and engaging people of color, people with diverse gender identities, and people with diverse abilities, Dallas Children's Theater will play an active role in the dismantling of institutional racism and prejudice, and provide a safe and welcoming space for families with children who are neurodiverse. We owe this to the children we serve who are our foundation, and the foundation of our global community.

DCT is committed to the kind of excellence in theater arts programming that challenges and inspires young people - from every race, culture, gender, social class, ability and sexual orientation - to develop their unique creative talents and individual perspectives in order to contribute to a more pluralistic and peaceful world.
