We make a positive impact on the citizens of Dallas and beyond as we educate the public about the archives, provide programming, and provide additional funding for archives supplies, equipment, and educational outreach. Essentially, we are a fundraising group that helps the archives obtain things it can't normally obtain through its limited city budget. For instance, archival supplies, such as boxes and folders, are a constant need. The Friends also help the archives have a permanent presence (meaning a literature table) at the annual Dallas Legacies history conference each January.
A scanner; exhibit funds for outreach; and funds for a teacher education seminar in the use of primary materials.
Our mission, as stated in our bylaws, is to (1) Provide a more thorough understanding of the work of the Dallas Municipal Archives, its limitations, difficulties, opportunities and responsibilities; (2) Build a greater realization of the importance of the Dallas Municipal Archives to the continued development of the City of Dallas and its communities; (3)
Provide additional funding for archives materials, supplies, equipment, educational outreach, and/or services from funds received through payment of dues for various types of memberships; (4) Attract - by bequest or by gifts - money, equipment, supplies, or other appropriate materials to the Dallas Municipal Archives; and (5) Serve as a medium through which The Friends of the Dallas Municipal Archives become acquainted with one another and share their mutual enthusiasm for the historical record.
