$10,000 Goal

This North Texas Giving Day, Goodwill Industries of Dallas is reaching out with an ambitious goal: to raise $10,000 to support the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van and community outings for those enrolled in our Empowerment Works program!

At Goodwill, we change lives, one job at a time. For more than one hundred years, Goodwill has helped individuals with barriers to employment transform their lives through the power of jobs. Goodwill achieves its mission through two closely integrated programs: our Donated Goods Retail social enterprise and our Workforce Development program.

Donated Goods Retail offers more than just a place to shop – it provides direct employment through the recycling and reselling of material donations across our nineteen stores, seven attended donation centers, Retail Operations Center, and our headquarters. By recycling and reselling donated items, we not only help our environment by diverting more than 26 million pounds of goods from landfills, but also reinvest all revenue into creating job opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment.

Our Workforce Development program utilizes a person-centered approach to upskilling, industry specific skills training, and job placement to support individuals in reaching their life goals. Goodwill Dallas serves eight counties in North Texas including Dallas, Ellis, Kaufman, Navarro, Rains, Rockwall, and parts of Denton and Collin counties.

WHO WE SERVE Since 1923, Goodwill has provided job training and employment to individuals with disabilities and those emerging from crisis ages 18-65+, including people:

  • Re-entering the workforce from incarceration
  • With intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs)
  • Who are unemployed and underemployed, including working poor
  • Who lack of GED/high school equivalency
  • With a history of substance abuse

Mission

At Goodwill Industries of Dallas (Goodwill), we are changing lives, one job at a time. We exist to help people with barriers recognize and reach their full potential and experience a life filled with purpose, accomplishment, and self-sufficiency.

Needs

This North Texas Giving Day, Goodwill Industries of Dallas is reaching out with an ambitious goal: to raise $10,000 to support the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van and community outings for those enrolled in our Empowerment Works program. This van is not just a vehicle—it’s a lifechanging resource that will unlock new opportunities for the 39 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) that we proudly serve.

Our Empowerment Works program empowers adults with IDDs through a dynamic, collegiate-style learning schedule that combines educational and employment support. Despite determination and capability, people with IDDs often face overwhelming social isolation, which can severely limit their opportunities for community engagement.

We believe that every person deserves to experience a life filled with purpose, accomplishment, and self-sufficiency and this van will be instrumental in making that a reality for our clients. With safe, reliable transportation, we can take our clients on essential outings that foster social interaction, build confidence, and create a sense of belonging.

The impact of such support is profound. Research shows that adults with IDDs who receive supported community engagement and vocational rehabilitation services have a 7% higher employment rate than those who do not. Only 20% of adults with IDDs are currently engaged in competitive employment . Goodwill has successfully placed four clients into Community Integrated Employment in 2024 so far. These are life-changing placements for those served.

By helping us fund this van, you are investing in the lives of individuals who deserve to experience a life filled with purpose, accomplishment, and self-sufficiency. Together, we can break down barriers, combat isolation, and open doors to brighter futures. Your generosity can make this vision a reality.
