Hatching HOPE Services

Our services are broken down into four distinct categories: Community Outreach, Parent Training, Individual & Family Support Services and Special Education Advocacy.

Community Outreach
As part of the autism community, we believe it is our responsibility to not only fulfill our mission of providing quality parent training to communities that need it, but we also to spread awareness about autism and educate our community. We also provide free quarterly community events.

Parent Training
Our parent training workshops and teaching sessions focus on parent education and parent-professional collaboration. Focus of the education is on characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and how it impacts communication, social development, behavior management, and school services. Parents learn about their child's unique learning style and effective strategies that will enhance learning at home. These groups provide parents an opportunity to meet and talk with other parents in a supportive setting.

Individual & Family Support Services
Our individual family support services help families immediately create an action plan that will best benefit their child and their entire family. This family planning consists of managing life with autism, finding therapies, speaking with providers, funding resources and all the other complexities involved with being an autism parent. Our support services have a minimal fee to begin services. Please refer to our support services tab for details. HHF works hard to ensure we give families the strength they need to continue renewing their spirit on this lifelong autism journey. It is important to remember the autism journey is long marathon and not a sprint.

Special Education Advocacy
As the rate of diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) continues to increase and in order to better meet the diverse and individual needs of families and their children with ASD, HHF Advocacy has become a group practice of seasoned, passionate and knowledgeable advocates who care deeply about helping families and who are committed to making sure our clients understand their rights under federal and local government.

Our Needs

Hatching Hope Foundation is still in need of assistance with capacity building to ensure the success of our mission. We need to provide our services to those individuals who can't afford to pay for a special education advocate and a personal parent resource advocate. As a result, we need donors, volunteers and sponsors who are ready, willing and able to help us make an immediate impact in our community.

Oftentimes, people of color aren't visible in the mental health conversation, and that alone impacts their acceptance of behavioral and mental health issues like autism by making it harder for them to believe and accept this diagnosis. Families of color in southern Dallas already feel they are left out and they are correct due to a limited amount of service providers and additional community supports for children diagnosed with autism and other special needs children in their local area. The gap as it relates to accessing quality services makes them feel ignored and widens the racial divide in the DFW area. Racial minorities in the U.S. are less likely overall to access behavioral and mental health services for reasons including cultural and socioeconomic barriers. When they do receive care, it is often poorer quality. The history of racism in mental health care is well-documented, and even today, there is still clear bias against people of color. We want to change that trend by keeping the conversation moving forward with our community outreach and enhance their knowledge with our parent training workshops.

People of color are disproportionately diagnosed later with Autism. Some 44 percent of African-American children with autism also have intellectual disabilities, compared with 22 percent of white children with the disorder. This alone underscores the necessity of resolving racial disparities in access to diagnostic, advocacy and therapeutic autism services for marginalized/underrepresented communities. It remains a priority to diagnose autism earlier and begin intervention sooner, especially given recent research suggesting that higher intensity and duration of early developmental therapy for children with autism is associated with significant improvements in outcomes.

Mission

Our mission is to increase autism awareness in underrepresented communities by educating, encouraging, and advocating for families that are affected directly or indirectly by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other related disabilities.

Equity Statement

Hatching Hope Foundation recognizes that low-income communities, and especially communities of color, are most affected by socioeconomic and environmental impacts. If we, as a leading minority nonprofit in this field, are to contribute to a more sustainable and just world for all, we need to amplify the voices, ideas, and solutions of people from the most vulnerable communities.

In order to do this successfully, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice must be core values of our organization.

The mission of Hatching Hope Foundation is to increase autism awareness in underrepresented communities by educating, encouraging, and advocating for families directly or indirectly affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other related disabilities. We recognize that the knowledge and experiences of the most affected communities are essential to early intervention for all children with a disability. However, many of the sectors that our work touches, especially healthcare and education, have historically excluded marginalized groups, particularly people of color.

As part of our commitment to being a thought leader in the autism world and the disability rights movement, we also commit to advancing racial justice in our work.

Hatching Hope Foundation strives to create a more sustainable and healthy world for all people across race, class, gender, geography, and other differences.

To do this Hatching Hope Foundation seeks to:

Attract and retain job candidates, board members, and business partners from diverse backgrounds.

Create an inclusive space at our workplace.

Host autism workshops with more speakers of color.

Guide our special education advocates, staff and volunteers to consider inclusivity at every step of the process, from research and interviews, to workshops, events and marketing of our services.

Partner with organizations that are led by people of color in the design of panels for conferences, webinars, and other community outreach events.

Hatching Hope Foundation acknowledges that incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into our daily practices is an ongoing learning process. We consider this to be a living document, and we welcome and encourage feedback.
