Hillcrest Animal Rescue is a 501c3, non-profit organization dedicated to saving as many homeless, neglected and abused animals as our resources allow. All of our rescues are placed in loving foster homes and receive thorough medical care. Each companion animal is heartworm tested and treated if positive; placed on monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention; altered and micro chipped. Every animal receives a full complement of vaccines depending on risk and immune status. Chronic pain is not acceptable with animals in our care. We will take whatever measures are necessary to ensure that all of our animals are living free of pain and disease. To summarize our belief in veterinary care, any animal at Hillcrest Rescue receives the same level of veterinary care as if she or he were the only animal we have.
Hillcrest Animal Rescue - Home Sweet Home
In the fall of 2020, Hillcrest Animal Rescue (HAR) teamed up with the Farmersville Outreach Alliance (FOA). FOA operates a food pantry in Farmersville, Texas, and offers distribution twice a month. Hillcrest began providing pet food in 2020 and free spay and neutering in 2023.
As people navigated the pandemic and quarantine's isolation, they needed the unconditional companionship of their fur babies. Hillcrest suspected families struggling to make ends meet may face the difficult decision of putting food on their tables - or food in the bowls of their 4-legged family members. HAR started providing dog and cat food for pantry distributions. Since 2020, we have donated over 2,600 bags/boxes of dog food and over 2,000 bags/boxes of cat food to FOA. An average of 30 families obtain food from each distribution.
As the relationship between HAR and FOA evolved, Hillcrest recognized another issue taking a toll on the families utilizing the pantry. The number of pets per family seemed to be increasing. When surveyed, we attributed this to two main reasons:
1) lack of spay and neuter
2) additional strays being acquired
So, in 2023 Hillcrest began to schedule and cover the costs of alterations for FOA food pantry clients. Forty-seven animals have been altered, and vaccinated, and several have received additional surgeries to improve their health. The need continues to grow, along with the need to educate.
Our Needs
We are always seeking donations for the sometimes extensive medical/surgical care and the maintenance care for all of our rescue animals.
