Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of our local Hood County seniors 60 years of age and older by alleviating social isolation and loneliness and fighting food insecurity. We offer nutritious meals, friendly smiles, innovative life enrichment programs and increased mobility so our local seniors may continue to experience life as a meaningful part of our community. Our vision is to offer life enrichment to a broader senior base, increase awareness of our programs, and alleviate food insecurity within our senior population to enhance the quality of life of as many local seniors as possible. We seek to increase the Center footprint to accommodate projected growth so we may serve those who served us and can no longer serve themselves.

According to the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging (NCTAAA), Meals on Wheels Texas, and the US Census Bureau:

  • Population Increase: From 2019 to 2024, there has been a five-year increase of 33.5% in the population of older North Central Texans.
  • Nearly 17 percent of all seniors in Texas are at risk of hunger.
  • Almost 40 percent of Meals on Wheels recipients report needing assistance with daily living activities compared with only 6 percent of the total US population, making them more at risk for hospitalization or other care.
  • Nearly 1,050 Texans turn 65 every day.
  • Hood County’s population of those 65 and older is at 25%. The average is 13%.

We serve our local Hood County seniors 60 and older through our Congregate Meals, Life Enrichment, Meals on Wheels and Transportation programs to ensure they have the best quality of life possible. Services are offered at no charge. A donation of $3.50 is suggested for meals.
