Legal Hospice of Texas (LHT) provides free legal counsel, advocacy, and representation in the areas of Estate Planning (wills, financial/medical power of attorney, living wills, guardianship declaration), Insurance (health, life, credit, disability, COBRA), Employment (benefits, discrimination, ADA, FMLA, return to work issues, disability issues), Public Benefits (Social Security counseling and appeals), and Housing (discrimination, eviction). In addition to these services, LHT maintains a network of attorneys who accept referrals of non-qualifying cases, frequently at a reduced fee.
LHT is the only provider in our service area of pro bono legal services dedicated to this population of low-income individuals with HIV or AIDS. Every client has a consultation with an attorney. In addition to the main office in Dallas, Legal Hospice of Texas provides off-site appointments for clients at eight additional sites scattered across our 8-county service area. For clients who are too ill to travel, we can arrange intake, attorney consultation, and execution of estate planning documents in residential, medical, and extended care settings.
Our Needs
Legal Hospice would benefit from the capacity to grow our team. This could include the ability to hire a second attorney, a paralegal or fulfilling our yearly externship program. Fulfilling additional staff positions would allow us to meet the increased demand for service.
