McKinney Community Band
The McKinney Community Band, now in our 17th year, provides McKinney and Collin County communities with quality wind band concerts that are always free to attend and family-friendly. We pride ourselves on holding high-quality performances that delight our audiences. We also have two smaller ensembles, the Flute Choir and the McKinney Dance Band, which provide additional performances throughout the community by performing in venues too small for the full concert band. This allows us to provide music to people who may have difficulty getting to one of our concerts and provide additional music opportunities for our members and audiences.
Community Outreach via Public & Private Performances
The Dance Band honors U.S. veterans and active military each year with two special concerts for Veteran's Day and Armed Forces Day and the Flute Choir performs at Arts events in the community. In addition to our community outreach through our performances, the MCB provides a scholarship for students at Scott Johnson Middle School, the school where the band rehearses.
Education Outreach to Local Band Students
MCB's Education Outreach program provides a positive view of music as a life-long activity to young local band students. The McKinney Dance Band has performed alongside students at Scott Johnson Middle School and McKinney High School to help their Jazz Band programs and help raise awareness and funds for the school's music programs.
OUR NEEDS
Funding is needed to help with percussion and instrument purchases, music purchases, guest artist expenses, venue rental, and operational (transportation, storage, marketing, etc.) expenses.
We also need volunteers to assist as ushers, equipment set up, music library organization, and more. Please fill out our Volunteer Interest form online if you'd like us to contact you or you need additional information about our volunteer needs.
Moving Forward into 2025
Our audiences continued to grow during our 2023-24 season at concerts filled with great classic band literature. Next up is our Fall 2024 concert, the start of our 2024-25 concert season, on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church in Plano. Watch our website for details.
Founded in 2006, McKinney Community Band is an all-volunteer, non-profit instrumental music organization open to adults in McKinney and surrounding areas. We provide band performances throughout the area at no cost for public enjoyment and in support of community events; provide an outlet for adults to pursue a love of music, improve skills and perform; expose the public to many music genres; and serve as an outreach to community members unable to attend concerts by bringing music to them.
The McKinney Community Band (MCB), founded in 2006, is a non-profit volunteer instrumental musical organization open to adult residents of McKinney and surrounding communities regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, economic status, or veteran status.
