Before the nationwide Children's Advocacy Center Movement began, child victims of abuse were underserved by our system. Often, there are several agencies involved in investigating allegations of child abuse. As a result, child victims were interviewed numerous times about the most traumatic events of their lives. Additionally, cases were falling through the cracks because there was not a team approach to investigations.

Today, children's advocacy centers across the nation provide a child a friendly environment where all investigating agencies now come to the child. The child is interviewed once by a trained forensic interviewer and all agency partners work together as a team to coordinate their investigations and services for the child and their protective family members through the Children's Advocacy Center.

Paluxy River Children's Advocacy Center opened its doors on September 1, 2006. It was the 61st center to open in the state of Texas.

Our CAC serves Erath, Hood and Somervell Counties. We provide services for children under the age of 18 who are involved in a case related to sexual abuse and/or severe physical abuse.

We provide
1. Forensic Interviews to alleged victims of child abuse.
2 Trauma informed counseling that is free to the client and family.
3. Family Advocacy Services
4. Prevention Education

Our Needs

PRCAC currently needs operational support to ensure that child abuse victims and their non-offending family members receive life-changing services to bring them justice, hope, and healing completely FREE of charge. These services include forensic interviews, comprehensive mental health services, and family assistance.

Mission

The mission of the Paluxy River Children's Advocacy Center is to promote the healing of child abuse victims one child at a time. In addition to this, we strive to prevent child abuse through education. In doing this, we give children the tools they need to recognize, resist, and report abuse. Children are given a voice and adults are trained to recognize and report suspected abuse.

Needs

As a non-profit, the PRCAC has many on-going needs. The following items are needed throughout the year:

-Bottled water

-Individually wrapped snacks (fruit snacks, cookies, crackers)

-Canned sodas

-Brown sandwich bags

-New toys for all ages (each child receives an age appropriate toy after completing their Forensic Interview)

The PRCAC is always looking for dedicated volunteers to assist at outreach events and to help with various tasks within the center.
