Our Needs

Help Us Repair and Restore Homes for Low-Income Senior Residents

Ensure Safe and Stable Housing for Our Seniors

As North Texas Giving Day approaches, we need your help to address a critical issue facing our low-income senior residents: foundation problems in their homes. Your support can provide the essential repairs needed to ensure safe, stable, and secure living environments for our elderly neighbors.

The word "foundation" has several meanings and has meant different things to our Organization over time.  From foundational beliefs, church members from the Plano community came together in the early 1980s to find land in hopes of building affordable housing for widows.  Land was donated and committed individuals founded a Board of Directors who established a charitable foundation that worked with the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).  Money was secured to pour the physical foundation for a 3-story structure.  This building laid the groundwork for our first, 129 apartments.  Today, Plano Community Homes owns & operates almost 500 apartments for low-income Seniors Adults and persons with mobility impairments.  Our focus the past few years has been on maintenance and preservation of our aging properties.  The severe Texas weather has impacted the aging foundations of several of our buildings.  Sticking doors, cracked walls and separation of flooring and walls are now visually evident.  There are reserve funds to use on such expensive repairs, but they are inadequate to cover all that must be done.  This is why we are seeking donations through North Texas Giving Day 2024.  Will you please donate?

The Importance of Foundation Repair

  1. Safety and Stability: Foundation issues can lead to severe structural damage, posing safety hazards for residents. Repairing foundations ensures that homes are safe and secure.
  2. Health and Well-being: Cracks and gaps in the foundation can lead to moisture problems, mold growth, and pest infestations, all of which can severely impact the health of our senior residents.
  3. Peace of Mind: Addressing foundation problems reduces stress and anxiety for seniors, allowing them to live comfortably without worrying about the stability of their homes.

We also appreciate the gift of time if you would like to volunteer for a project or lead an activity at our community!
