Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Rowlett)

A nonprofit organization

All about us:
• In the early 1890s a circuit rider priest would say Mass in the home of a local farmer on his monthly visit to the area. By 1898 the 12 founding families realized the need to provide a proper place to worship. They followed the unwritten rules when constructing His House. It must be larger than the current place of worship, and large enough to grow in. Also, it must be well constructed and as beautiful as possible. The thirteen stained glass windows, said to be imported from Germany, allow the sun's rays to illuminate the interior in a beautiful array of color.
• The 1921 tornado knocked the Church off its footings. At that time, the church elders turned the church 180 degrees to face the new Main Street, also known as Bankhead Highway.
• The Dallas County Historical Commission placed a historic marker at the church on January 5, 1977 paying tribute to the church and the families who established it.
• By 1985 the small mission had grown to 100 families, thus qualifying it as an official parish. Within 7 years mass attendance had outgrown the building and in 1992 a new sanctuary was built 2 miles north on Hickox Road.
• In 1994, the little white church on Main Street was moved to Hickox Road and restored. It is still used daily by the parishioners for religious worship, baptisms and weddings.
• On December 26, 2015, Rowlett was struck by an EF4 tornado. The members of various parish and community organizations, such as St. Vincent de Paul Society and the city's Certified Emergency Response Team went into the devastated area providing help to the storm's victims. The support of Catholic Charities and the St. Vincent de Paul Society were specifically recognized in the mayor's 2018 State of the City address
• As the only Catholic Church in the growing community of Rowlett, Texas, Sacred Heart serves a community of 62,000 (as of 2016) with 20% of Rowlett's population identifying themselves as Catholic. There are 42 different nationalities represented in the Parish of 1,000 families.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church invites the people of Rowlett, Texas and the surrounding communities to join us each Sunday for Mass to respond to God's mercy with lives of praise and joyful service.

Our Needs

A $100,000 goal has been set to help fund the cost of building a new church. A portion of the money raised will help defray the costs to relocate the original historic church to a more prominent location on our campus and to restore the building, which is in need of major repairs. This relocation will provide the space needed for the new church's construction.

Mission

Since the 19th Century, Sacred Heart Parish continues to gather celebrating the Eucharist. Growing through the Eucharist, we strive to deepen the faith within ourselves and one another. Together we are committed to serve everyone within our parish and to share the light of Christ with all. Humbly, we work to embrace our diverse community as we entrust ourselves to the love of Sacred Heart.
