Who we are
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we're proud to reflect on Sharing Life’s journey from a humble food pantry in 1999 to a comprehensive, multi-service nonprofit dedicated to addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of our community. Our mission has always been to end hunger and poverty, and over the past quarter-century, we’ve expanded our services to do just that.
Providing nutritious food is just the beginning. Today, we offer a comprehensive range of programs designed to create a better future for our clients and their families. In addition to food assistance, we provide emergency financial help, clothing, educational programs, GED testing, job placements, financial coaching, medical equipment, and other essential services.
Your support has been instrumental in allowing us to develop new initiatives like:
ePantry: A convenient, online grocery service where clients can shop for the items they need and either pick them up curbside or have them delivered within a 10-mile radius through our partnership with DoorDash.
W.A.R.M. (Weather Activated Relief for Mesquite): A temporary shelter program that offers safe, warm accommodations for unsheltered individuals during extreme weather conditions. In addition to shelter, we provide essentials like clothing, blankets, toiletries, and meals.
As we look back on 25 years of service, we’re excited about the future and the continued impact we can make together. Thank you for being a vital part of our story.
What makes us different
Along with providing the services our clients need, the most important way we serve our clients is by demonstrating compassion. Providing assistance without compassion places a client who is already in a vulnerable situation, who may feel guilt or shame, in an even lower place. Compassion gives us the ability to understand someone’s situation, put ourselves in their shoes, and work with them to find a solution. When clients walk into Sharing Life, they are greeted with dignity, respect, and most of all, compassion.
Our Needs
According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap survey, Texas is the most food insecure state in the nation and your neighbors need you now. With the support of our generous community, Sharing Life provides consistent access to food pantry services, saving households on average $666.42 per month, approximately 12% of their monthly income.
After the donations needed to fund these programs and services, the greatest need we have are volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of Sharing Life and without them, we are not able to get all of the resources we have available out into the community. These invaluable individuals ensure that our extensive range of resources effectively reach the community. While the scope of our offerings is substantial, the support of volunteers remains essential to bridge the gap and make a tangible impact.
