We serve all of Northeast Texas but especially Hunt County and the Lake Tawakoni area. We are the only hope for animals in Southern Hunt County and are often told we are the only rescue to return a phone call or try to help the animals in need in this rural area. Many of our animals are stray, rescued from living on the streets or have been abandoned. How anyone can move and leave a dog behind we don't understand but this happens way too often in this area. We are saving over 250 animals per year and feed on average 85 animals every day. We have become a sanctuary for older dogs that deserve a home no matter their age or adopt-ability and unsocial animals that we are still trying to rehabilitate. We love them all and will care for them no matter what. Recently we have had some Senior dogs adopted and the stories are amazing! We work with individuals or families to prevent ANY animal from going to a high kill shelter whenever possible. We have also been there for domestic abuse survivors that need to go to a shelter but will not leave their animal behind. We are there to care for their animal at no charge until they can regain suitable housing for themselves and their animal. Your gifts support all of our programs. Saving animals is our passion and helping people and any animal in need is our daily goal.
Our Needs
Since Covid our needs have continued to change. Our adoptions were up during that time but luckily, we did nto see a surge in animals returned when so many went back to work. We have always considered our jobs as rescuers to also ensure the long term success of each adoption. We work to enhance the human - animal bond through thoughtful placement of each animal and post-adoption support. We continue to search for Fosters to give our animals a break from outdoor living. We provide all you need, you provide the home and love for a few days or longer! Our greatest need is a permanent and loving HOME for all of our animals!
We strive to continually improve the lives of the animals in our care. This Summer we added additional shade with permanent shade covers attached to the permanent structure in the large kennels that house the dogs. Additional fans were added giving the dogs more comfort along with raised beds and water tubs for those who like to swim. This winter they will have heat lamps and their structures will be closed to provide more comfort.
We belong to a food bank for rescues but they have not received enough donations to share enough food with the many rescues that need the assistance. We have become part of the food insecure. Just like families, rescues are struggling to feed our dogs. Instead of .15 to .20/lb, we were paying retail at over $1.00 per lb to buy food until we could establish a wholesale relationship and buy by the truckload. The cost increase is still overwhelming but dogs are hungry and feeding them quality food is a priority. Funds raised now are going first to maintain an adequate food supply. Veterinary expenses have also skyrocketed. Spay/neuter has almost doubled from just 3 years ago. Emergency medical issues have always been challenging but we must be ready to save a life with emergency care and of course spay/neuter is an absolute must! Every dollar given goes directly to the animals. We have no Administration salaries and our Board of Directors is volunteer based. Funds raised this year will ensure we can continue to say YES to emergency situations and save as many dogs and pups as possible.
