Texas Eating Disorders Association

A nonprofit organization

Up to 30 million people of all ages and genders currently suffer from eating disorders in the United States. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, with the death rate of anorexia nervosa being 12 times higher than the rate associated with all causes of death for females 15-24 years old.
Despite the prevalence of eating disorders, they continue to receive inadequate research funding:
• $450,000,000 is spent on Alzheimer's research annually, that's $88 per affected individual
• $276,000,000 is spent on Schizophrenia research annually, that's $81 per affected individual
• $160,000,000 is spent on Autism research annually, that's $44 per affected individual
• Only $28,000,000 is spent on Eating Disorders research annually, that's $0.93 per affected individual
