The Birthday Party Project's mission is to bring JOY to children experiencing homelessness

through the MAGIC of a birthday celebration!

What started in 2012 as an idea to host monthly birthday parties for unsheltered and uncelebrated children has evolved into something far greater. As we’ve grown, we’ve discovered that our celebrations do more than just create magical moments—they also:

  • Provide a sense of normalcy for children in crisis.
  • Support children who have experienced extreme social and emotional trauma.
  • Help strengthen family bonds and create new memories in the midst of turmoil.
  • Offer an innovative approach to healing for families in need.
  • Educate others about homelessness and provide a fun, approachable, and accessible way to serve.
  • Enhance the capacity of hardworking nonprofits and community partners who may lack the resources to host these celebrations themselves.

We partner with 22 shelters and transitional living facilities in North Texas. We leverage the talents of our Birthday Enthusiasts (volunteers) to help us celebrate with hundreds of kids each month! The Birthday Party Project is committed to growth, scalability, sustainability, efficiency, and most importantly—fun! We are continuously expanding our community, investing in those we serve, and inviting others to join us in building a movement centered on young people and the joy of celebration.

Mission

The mission of The Birthday Party Project (TBPP) is to bring joy to children experiencing homelessness through the magic of birthdays.

Needs

To make every celebration truly special, we need a variety of gifts that cater to all age groups, from 1 to 21. Specifically, we’re looking for toys and gift cards to ensure every child we celebrate receives a gift they’ll love. Each month, we distribute between 500 and 750 toys, so the need is great!

Our parties are packed with all the elements of a fantastic birthday bash—cake, decorations, games, crafts, and the highlight: our photo booth! With Instax cameras and film, we capture joyful moments that families can keep as tangible memories. Many of the families we serve have had to leave their homes quickly due to safety concerns and often don’t have personal keepsakes. By contributing toys and gift cards, you help us ensure every child receives a special gift and creates cherished memories. Your donations play a crucial role in bringing smiles to the faces of the children we celebrate and making each party an unforgettable experience for them and their families.

Equity Statement

Our celebrations bring together people from diverse worldviews, backgrounds, and cultures, creating a unique opportunity for connection and understanding. By sharing JOY, we aim to address not just the immediate challenges of homelessness but also to heal emotional wounds. We believe that joy and love have the power to mend hurting hearts and transform lives. Every child deserves a joyful birthday experience, regardless of their circumstances. We are deeply committed to this core value and strive to foster an inclusive environment by promoting a workplace that is free from discrimination and unlawful harassment, ensuring that every individual is respected and valued.
