Mission

The Pegasus Project is an equine rescue whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, retrain and rehome neglected, abused and abandoned horses, donkeys and mules throughout Texas. Through love, quality care and superior training methods, we establish a solid foundation of mind and body. We prepare the horse to be adopted by carefully-screened forever homes or to serve the needs of at-risk or disabled children and adults through therapeutic riding programs. For a small number of special-needs horses, Pegasus is a lifelong sanctuary.

As part of our mission, we respond to cruelty complaints and conduct investigations and seizures of neglected and abused animals with the assistance of local law enforcement. We take these horses into our program and nurse them back to health. Each horse is handled daily and is placed on a diet to meet its specific nutritional needs. Once healthy, we dedicate our resources to training the horse, using natural and traditional horsemanship techniques.

We believe that an untrained horse faces an uncertain future. These animals need more than sanctuary. They need people dedicated to improving their quality of life and capable of providing the level of care necessary to revitalize their bodies and spirits. We are a unique horse rescue organization because of the level of specialized attention each horse receives. Each is evaluated by a professional trainer and receives specific care, development and training by accomplished horsemen in order to create a respectful, well-trained partner for its future family.
