Prior to our non-profit incorporation our co-founders and a handful of volunteers provided monthly free food distribution to the Singing Hills neighborhood of Oak Cliff Texas using money out of their own pockets. 2018 brought about the inception of the The Oak Cliff Veggie Project as a 501(c)3 compliant organization with the installation of our first community garden. To date our Cultivate The Community Initiative has created and helped revitalize 8 community garden spaces located in communities identified as food deserts providing educational and access opportunities. Our Veggie Store now provides just over 1000 families a month with fresh produce. These two programs have provided community service opportunities to neighbors across the DFW metroplex. The gardens are helping to bring people together, especially children, to produce fresh produce for the benefit of all in the community. Perhaps our most significant impact is our community partnerships allowing us to touch more members of the community by targeting specialty groups such as non-mobile families, houseless neighbors, disabled elders and individual with chronic illness by making specialty produce bags that are delivered to these groups by our volunteers.

Our Needs

Our most immediate needs are as follows:

eTo support the continuing operations of our Cultivate The Community Initiative as well as provide funding for infrastructure improvements to our gardens, community cold storage unit and the building of our Cooperative Hydroponics Lab. These additions and improvements will allow OCVP to increase access to fresh produce for families in need and begin cultivating enough produce to provide continuing financial support of our operations.
