Our Needs
The Women's Council of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is responsible for the yearly maintenance and expansion of A Woman's Garden. The major goal of the Women's Council is to raise the funds for the design, construction, and endowment of this principal garden at the Arboretum. A Woman's Garden was conceived and became a reality with the opening of Phase I in 1997. Through continued fundraising, Phase II was opened in 2006.
Like every aging garden 25 years old, garden refurbishment and updating is needed. Our beautiful Pecan Parterre garden area in Phase I is our next project for renewal. This garden is shaded by a large pecan tree and adorned with "Play Days", a bronze statue on permanent loan from the Dallas Museum of Art. The boxwoods and other plantings need to be replaced and the pathways restored for easy access and to prevent erosion due to rain. Unsightly pumps will be screened from view by appropriate landscaping.
