Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. (YAP) is a national nonprofit in 23 states and Washington, DC serving over 11,000 youth and families annually. YAP has been operating programs in Texas since 1992.
North Texas Behavioral Health Program serves children and families ages 4-18 in Dallas and surrounding counties since 2000. Children and Adolescents can receive psychiatric services, group and individual counseling, skills training, and case management. We provide Individual and Family Counseling, Skills Training and Development, Case Management, Psychiatric Evaluations, Medication Management, and Parent Support. We conduct our services in our outpatient office as well as in the community. Community visits include but is not limited to the client's home, local parks, libraries, community centers, and, if allowed, schools.
Other programs include, Tarrant County YES Waiver Program's mission is to help at-risk youth ages 3-18 avoid placement in a mental health hospital and/or residential treatment center. The goal of YES Waiver is to reduce the need for inpatient hospitalizations for at risk youth across the state of Texas.
A recent reduction in funding statewide has created a great need for program support, equipment and operating expenses, and unrestricted funds to assist in providing youth and families with emergency needs and assistance.
Our mission is to provide individuals who are, have been or may be subject to compulsory care with the opportunity to develop, contribute and be valued as assets so that communities have safe, proven effective and economical alternatives to institutional placement.
YAP is committed to providing excellent service to our program participants, their parents and guardians, and other individuals and families we serve. Recognizing that more than 70 percent of our program participants are Black and Brown, we see our work as key to bringing racial equity to youth justice, child welfare and other YAP systems partners where disparities have persisted for decades. We regularly review our programs and provide development for YAP's employees that includes racialized trauma training and other career development opportunities to identify, address and eradicate racism and discrimination in our internal and external policies, procedures, and practices.
