With campuses in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton, Recovery Resource Council has served North Texas veterans, unhoused, youth, and families since 1946 by providing affordable and accessible mental health services, outpatient treatment, prevention programs, and housing assistance.
Our focus population includes veterans and their family members, chronically unhoused adults with co-occurring disorders, at-risk youth struggling with the impact of adverse childhood experiences, and adults struggling with addictions, trauma, and mental health disorders. The Council is licensed by the State of Texas and accredited by the Joint Commission, which ensures that we operate under a standard of excellence held accountable by routine monitoring.
Our impact is best illustrated through the lives of the individuals we serve…
Sam, a resilient 70-year-old veteran, has navigated a life filled with challenges. Orphaned alongside his three siblings, he experienced a tumultuous childhood in foster homes and group housing. Despite these hardships, Sam’s determination led him through the ranks of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC), service in the Navy, and a 15-year career as a Merchant Marine.
As an adult, Sam struggled with housing stability. The relentless tide of inflation and the escalating cost of living pushed him into cycles of homelessness. With assistance from the Council’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, Sam secured an apartment where he has lived since fall 2023.
Guided by a dedicated case manager, Sam is navigating obstacles hindering his reentry into the workforce, including technological barriers, transportation limitations, and health challenges. Reflecting on his journey, Sam emphasized the commitment of the Council’s staff, describing them as instrumental in his progress. “These people are serious. They’re determined to help you. They’ll work with you. They’ll help you accomplish a lot.” To him, “everything in this program has a purpose,” illuminating a path towards stability, wellbeing, and empowerment.
