The School of Science and Engineering Magnet (SEM) is a college preparatory public high school established in 1982. Our school offers a variety of courses designed to allow students to acquire the necessary skills to compete globally in the areas of Science and Engineering. We are a school with an exciting and rigorous learning environment for both students and staff. Admission to The School of Science and Engineering is based upon a student’s achievements and interest. All SEM students are required to participate in a comprehensive Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement curriculum.

SEM strives to mold young men and women into leaders who are open to growth, intellectually competent, and committed to working for justice. SEM is focused on the formation of the whole student, and seeks to offer an unparalleled educational experience to all academically qualified students, regardless of their financial status.

SEM is the pre-eminent STEM magnet in The Dallas Independent School District. It is located at The Townview Magnet Center in Oak Cliff which houses six magnet schools creating a vibrant learning environment. SEM provides a rigorous student-centered education to 508 students in grades 9-12 with an 18:1 student-teacher ratio. A 2022 National Blue Ribbon School recipient, SEM is one of only three Texas high schools to ever receive the award three-times!

During the 2022-23 academic year, graduating students received scholarships totaling over $23 million to their attending universities. SEM maintains a 100% higher education enrollment rate. In addition to a full academic curriculum, the majority of the student body participates in at least one of the school’s 47 extracurricular offerings, which includes nationally reputable programs in robotics, debate, and chess.

Mission

The Science and Engineering Magnet High School is a learning community established to provide students with a rigorous college preparatory, academic and technical program relating to the sciences, mathematics, and engineering fields.

Needs

This year, donations will directly impact students by providing them with enriched academic experiences, meaningful campus community, mental health assistance, senior graduation celebration activities, teacher appreciation meals and gifts, and so much more. Every contribution, no matter the size, will ensure that no student misses out on this important milestone due to financial constraints.

Equity Statement

SEM seeks to provide an exemplary education for all qualified students regardless of financial means through the availability and distribution of need-based financial aid.
