I got my first baby, Brandy, when I was 2 years old.  She was a Golden Retriever and was a part of our family for 16 years and she was the absolutely best dog ever!  So ever since then I've always had a soft spot for Goldens.   In the 10 years we've been fostering we've had hundreds of dogs/puppies pass through our doors (and tons of kittens/cats also), but I've never "foster failed" with one of the pups.  But I hadn't ever fostered a Golden Retriever.

Last fall a family contacted Humane Tomorrow to surrender their Golden Retriever that had medical issues and I decided that our family would foster her while we worked through her medical stuff.  A few months after we started fostering her Phil said to me, "Hey, so, um, when is Scout going to be made available for adoption?"  I sat there silently, staring straight ahead, until one huge crocodile tear rolled down my cheek.  He smiled and said, "Yeah, that's what I thought."

When he asked me that question I realized I would be so sad if she left our family, but I haven't made her adoption official yet because I'm probably in some way still in denial that we're finally foster failing after all of these years.  But we all know she's not going anywhere.  So I thought it would be a great idea that if I met my goal for North Texas Giving Day I would finalize her adoption on NTXGD and that way every NTXGD going forward would all that much more special.  So help me make my goal and help Scout become an official Casteel!
