We have the unique opportunity to underwrite for a bookfair at Western Hills Elementary, one of the schools we regularly support. A key focus area at LVTRise is supporting children and youth through activities that can help them develop, thrive, discover their dreams, and realize they can reach their greatest potential. One of the ways we do this is through our partnerships with the neighborhood schools in the Western Hills Pyramid. During the school year we lead monthly meetings with school and community leaders where we identify problems, gaps, and needs within the schools, and then begin to work on solutions and ways to support the students, staff, and parents. A prime example of this occurred last school year when LVTRise discovered during one of our parent engagement and education committee meetings, many refugee students were in danger of being expelled due to lack of required school vaccines. LVTRise partnered with a mobile pediatric unit to provide vaccinations to the students and keep 68 children in school.
We recognize that education is a multiprong pillar touching multiple aspects of the community. We believe when parents have what they need, students can thrive. We would love to raise enough money to partner with Scholastic and Western Hills Elementary to hold a bookfair where we can ensure that all students leave with books of their very own. LVTRise understands the importance of education and the power of reading. A bookfair would create an opportunity for our children to have a fun and positive experience and help further spark a love for learning. Based on recently conducted surveys in our community, we learned the poverty level in the Las Vegas Trail area is 3x's higher than that of Fort Worth as a whole, and the range of economically disadvantaged students within the Western Hills Pyramid schools is 70-85%. With this in mind we understand all of the students may not have access to their own books at home, but we would like to change that.
In addition to the bookfair, at LVTRise we develop, coordinate, and host multiple activities for children and youth at the Rise Community Center. As we continue to gain funding, we will enhance the services provided for children and youth, so they will always have a safe, fun place where they are free to be children, and creating lasting memories of fun experiences. We take pride in the events and activities we have, and love being a hub in the community for children and families. We offer summer camps, after school activities, theater and dance classes and look forward to expanding our scope to provide additional youth programming.
At LVTRise we not only value the education of children, but also adults. We host a GED class on our campus at no cost to the individual. We provide all materials and a take-home family meal, to help eliminate barriers that could distract from success. The community member then can focus on participating in the class and achieving their goals. We also provide job certification courses and ESL classes. We truly want to help our community members thrive.
As needs arise for community members, they come to us for direction and support. We are happy to help in any way we can, and frequently this comes in the form of helping complete applications for assistance or providing information needed to overcome the challenge being faced. Sometimes our community members come to us with an emergent need for financial assistance. In those cases, we love to provide support as funding allows. The financial assistance we provide is paid directly to a third party and helps individuals maintain housing, retain employment and with other vitally important needs. Through continued fundraising we can ensure we have general assistance funding that can provide the critical assistance a family is needing. The beauty of LVTRise and our wrap around service capability, is that emergency funding can be provided, and one on one coaching can occur to help prevent the family from being in this position again.
LVTRise is a partner in the Las Vegas Trail community. We work daily to empower individuals, positively effect the neighborhood and help our community thrive. Your support is essential in continuing this important mission.
