Thank you for checking out my request!  I'd like to explain why we need your help.

Prairies are the iconic Texas landscape.  Fields of flowers bowing to the wind, grasses rippling to the horizon, birds calling and butterflies sipping nectar. Add a hill with the sun setting behind some twisted old Post Oaks and the scene might be hanging in the Amon Carter Museum.  This is the landscape the settlers traversed, led by their hopes for a brighter future.  But have you noticed something wrong?  Look outside.  Where prairies covered the land just a few years ago, now houses rise in endless rows.  The days of reveling in Indian Blanket or photographing babies in fields of Texas Bluebonnets may be near an end.  Our prairies are endangered, vanishing before our eyes, bulldozed to make way for sub-divisions, energy development, roads and schools.  If we do not act now and act big, prairies will only be seen in landscapes on the walls of museums.

All prairies need our help to survive, but the limestone-based Fort Worth prairie is the most endangered prairie ecosystem in Texas.  Sitting in the middle of North Texas, one of the fastest growing urban areas in the US, with little public protection for natural areas and unstoppable development pressure, the Fort Worth Prairie has been pared down to remnants of its magnificent past.

Please consider joining me and the Native Prairies Association of Texas in the fight to protect those Fort Worth prairie remnants and as much North Texas prairie land as we can.  Your tax deductible donation to the Native Prairies Association of Texas will be used to permanently protect precious acres of this irreplaceable landscape.  Please give what you can, no amount is too small to help.  Your donation will be doubled thanks to a generous matching grant from the North Texas Prairie Initiative.  And Please Act Now!  Time is running out.

Thank you, Kate
