What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a mental health profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.

Who are Art Therapists?
Art therapists are credentialed mental health professionals. They are trained in a broad range of psychological theory and ways to use art media and creative processes to help people cope with mental health challenges. Art therapists hold Masters–level or higher degrees. Look for a therapist with the credentials ATR (art therapist registered) or ATR–BC (board–certified art therapist registered).

As a professional Dallas Art Therapy is a very important organization to me. When I moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth Area I was shocked by the lack of Art Therapy services in Texas. Luckily, I found Dallas Art Therapy and was welcomed by our founder, Andrea with open arms. Dallas Art Therapy served as a landing pad for me as I finished up my associate counseling hours before full licensure.

It is important for me that Dallas Art Therapy exists because it helps both increase the understanding of the Art Therapy profession in Texas, as well as, the understanding of Art Therapy as a healing profession.

While I have moved onto a new position I have continued to volunteer as part of the DAT Board of Directors. Donating to Dallas Art Therapy improves the field of Art Therapy in Texas by creating more awareness and offers free and low cost Art Therapy and Mental Health services to the North Texas community.

I'd like to challenge my friends, family, and colleagues to donate to this worthy organization. Any amount makes a big difference! $10.00 is a great place to start.
