This year for North Texas Giving Day, I invite you to join me in supporting a cause that is close to my heart, The Quispicanchi Project.
As many of you know, I began traveling to Quispicanchi in 2014 leading high school students on short-term service immersion trips. Beginning in June of 2017, I started spending my summers in the region, practicing my Spanish, learning more about the culture, and finding ways to contrbute to the operations and activities of the local Jesuit parish retreat center. Despite language and cultural barriers, I also found my Peruvian family. It was out of this that the Quispicanchi Project came to fruition.
10 years after that first trip, I now find myself spending about 3 months a year in the region, collaborating with local officials, social workers, healthcare providers, parish administrators, community leaders, and more to implement initiatives addressing some of the most important and critical needs facing individuals, my friends, living in the region. It's such a privilege to serve as the Executive Director of the Quispicanchi Project, now in it's 5th year!
Thank you to everyone who has supported our mission in our first 5 years as an organization. We could not have done it without you! I also invite you to follow The Project on Instagram at @quispicanchi_project and visit their website at quispicanchi.org to learn more about the important work that they do.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Project operations are made possible by a generous network of donors both in The United States and in Peru. I am humbled by your support for this Project and the people and communities empowered by their efforts!

ABOUT THE QUISPICANCHI PROJECT
The Quispicanchi (kiss-pea-khan-chee) Project is the result of years of relationship development with the people living in the Quispicanchi Province of Southern Peru. Founded in 2020 as an effort to first provide emergency food assistance to our friends in this underserved region dealing with the immediate effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, The Project has grown in the four years since to also support initiatives dealing with health and hygiene, education, human rights work, and beyond.
In a spirit of accompaniment, the Quispicanchi Project seeks first to develop friendships which lead to a deepening empathy for those who struggle and a greater understanding of the needs of others. It is out of these relationships that solutions are imagined. Our goal is empowerment - where local individuals are equipped with the resources and knowledge to implement sustainable solutions they have designed to meet the needs and challenges they themselves face. The Quispicanchi Project partners with existing and trusted networks of support, social service agencies, organizations, and ministries in the region to implement these solutions.
The Quispicanchi Project is guided by four main objectives:
Objective 1 - Bolster nutritional intake and reduce nutritional deficiencies through the implementation of sustainable solutions.
Objective 2 - Work with local organizations to implement best health practices and improve overall well-being.
Objective 3 - Support local organizations working to increase equitable access to education in its various forms while empowering communities of creators and learners to achieve their potential.
Objective 4 - Celebrate and promote local and indigenous cultures.
