How did Middle-School-age you get through those tumultuous years? Did/Would music have helped you make it through the day? For many Title 1 middle schoolers, choir gives them a place to belong, to express, to thrive!

At Schola Cantorum Project (SCP), an outreach arm of the Fort Worth Chorale, we commission two composers of under-represented cultures for a year-long cycle, to create an engaging piece for Title 1 middle school choirs; then give it to those schools for FREE! We also create and distribute recordings and other support materials for the classroom teacher, to help the singers learn the music and about music fundamentals.

At the close of the cycle, the schools keep the music in their libraries and the composers regain the rights to their compositions; so they may then seek publication elsewhere in their own right. We are in the third cycle right now, and several of our SCP honorees have already been picked up for publication by established publishing houses! We are beyond proud to support them.

Over 30 volunteer committee members work year round to make this Project continue by recording, creating artwork, editing music, distributing materials, seeking donor support, searching for new composer talent, interviewing, budgeting, researching lyrics and historical information, marketing, and whatever else it takes to get things done! We strive to keep choir engaging for middle school into high school singers, who may continue singing into adulthood and serve our entire community!
