Humphrey's Journey: How One Picture Changed Two Lives Forever

The Power of a Single Image

Sometimes, a single moment can change everything. For me, that moment came when I stumbled upon a picture of a bulldog named Humphrey on the internet. His sad eyes seemed to look right through the screen, pleading for help. I had never fostered before, had no experience with bulldog rescue, but something in Humphrey's gaze told me I needed to act.

A Rocky Start

Getting approved to foster Humphrey wasn't easy. "You don't have enough experience," they said. But Humphrey's face haunted me, and I wouldn't take no for an answer. Finally, I was given the chance to be Humphrey's foster dad.

When Humphrey arrived, the extent of his neglect became clear. He was emaciated, distrustful of humans, and carried a bag full of medications. Years on the streets had left him with numerous health issues, including a torn ACL that required major surgery. But the biggest hurdle? Humphrey had given up on life.

The Long Road to Recovery

For seven months, Humphrey and I embarked on a journey of healing—both physical and emotional. Each day brought new challenges:

• Administering medications and supplements
• Slowly building trust through patience and love
• Countless vet visits and rehabilitation sessions
• Teaching Humphrey how to be a dog again

Progress was slow, but steady. Gradually, the scared, withdrawn dog began to emerge from his shell. His eyes, once dull with despair, started to sparkle with life.

A New Beginning

After seven months of care, love, and dedication, Humphrey was ready for his forever home. The transformation was miraculous. The dog who once shied away from human touch now sought out affection. His tail, once tucked in fear, wagged with joy.

Humphrey has passed. but he lived to a ripe old age of twelve.  He went from something that was discarded like trash to a beloved family member.  

Why I Give

Humphrey was my first foster, but he certainly wasn't my last. That one picture didn't just change Humphrey's life—it changed mine too. Since then, I've opened my home and heart to many bulldogs in need, each leaving an indelible mark on my soul.

I give to No Borders Bulldog Rescue because I've seen firsthand the difference it makes. Every dollar donated goes towards giving dogs like Humphrey a second chance at life, love, and happiness. It provides a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
