My journey with Readers 2 Leaders began as a Reading Buddy in West Dallas. It is such a fulfilling experience to see children smile from ear to ear when they conquer a word! My connection to our mission to equip students for success through the power of reading has only amplified year after year. Six years later I am now the proud Board Chair of this phenomenal organization!

Why I’m Fundraising

I ❤ R2L! I am committed to those we serve and I am committed to helping the organization achieve what is needs in order to provide critical intervention services. For students, this means a better academic experience, becoming a more confident learner, greater employment opportunities, and more choices to pursue fulfillment and happiness.

My involvement with R2L brought back what it means to read at such an early age. When I think about what reading means to my daughter, to my nephews, to my nieces - I am reminded that reading is magical. Take a moment to remember what it was like for you. Was it an outlet to another world? Was it a source for discoveries? Was it a pillar for confidence and independence? It was all of the above for me. For some of us it was the first time we imagined what we could become. We at R2L want all children to have access to those experiences. 

Back in 2018 I was featured in My Sweet Charity. While R2L is now reaching students beyond West Dallas, what I wrote then still stands: "I firmly believe every child in West Dallas should have an equal opportunity to learn to read.... The West Dallas community will benefit from empowered students ready to take charge of their futures and successfully graduate from high school with the doors of a university in sight."

Facts & Figures 

Since its founding in 2011, Readers 2 Leaders has provided services to 7,729 clients, including 6,852 students and 877 adults.

For 2024-2025 we aim for the following outcomes:

• Reach 1,500 students with high-quality literacy support services
• Equip 300 adults to help children grow as readers through coaching implementation and family reading cohort programs
• 85% of students attain mastery of grade-appropriate foundational literacy skills based on Renaissance Star
• 85% of students participate in 80% of sessions for 120 minutes of weekly instruction

Our reading programs have demonstrated significant success. In the 2023-24 academic year, 87 percent of students, as measured by Renaissance Star, made tangible progress toward their reading goals.
