My Personal Journey

As a first-generation student, navigating the path to higher education was filled with challenges I never imagined. But thanks to the unwavering support and guidance of mentors who believed in me, I was able to break barriers and earn my place at Harvard. That support changed my life, and now, I’m dedicated to paying it forward. Your donation can help us provide the same mentorship and resources to other deserving students who just need someone to believe in their potential. Together, we can open doors and change lives!

The Urgent Need

In Dallas, students from low-income households face a staggering gap in college and career readiness support. On average, public high school students receive only 38 minutes of college and career advising throughout their four years. This lack of guidance leads to a disheartening statistic: less than 20% of Dallas ISD students graduate college and are career-ready. Moreover, less than than a third of Dallas students will ultimately obtain a college degree or technical certificate.

Our Solution

Journey Forward Mentoring is committed to closing this gap. Our high school and postsecondary mentoring programs empower students of color from low-income households -- those who are historically underrepresented in higher education.

We provide personalized one-on-one mentorship that brings each student's dreams into focus. Through our Next Gen Mentoring program, students are matched with dedicated adult volunteers who guide them through high school, explore higher education options, and navigate potential career paths. Once they graduate, students join our Edge program which supports them until they achieve their postsecondary degree or credential. They benefit from group coaching, personalized college advising, social gatherings, and even a semester stipend to help with living expenses.

Our Financial Need

As we continue to expand, so do our financial requirements. We need funds to extend our post-secondary support programs and to employ a coordinating team to handle strategic planning, guidance, and administration—a critical foundation for the success of any impactful organization.
