ABOUT THE QUISPICANCHI PROJECT

The Quispicanchi (kiss-pea-khan-chee) Project is the result of years of relationship development with the people living in the Quispicanchi Province of Southern Peru. Founded in 2020 as an effort to first provide emergency food assistance to our friends in this underserved region dealing with the immediate effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, The Project has grown in the four years since to also support initiatives dealing with health and hygiene, education, human rights work, and beyond.

In a spirit of accompaniment, the Quispicanchi Project seeks first to develop friendships which lead to a deepening empathy for those who struggle and a greater understanding of the needs of others. It is out of these relationships that solutions are imagined. Our goal is empowerment - where local individuals are equipped with the resources and knowledge to implement sustainable solutions they have designed to meet the needs and challenges they themselves face. The Quispicanchi Project partners with existing and trusted networks of support, social service agencies, organizations, and ministries in the region to implement these solutions.

The Quispicanchi Project is guided by four main objectives:

Objective 1 - Bolster nutritional intake and reduce nutritional deficiencies through the implementation of sustainable solutions.

Objective 2 - Work with local organizations to implement best health practices and improve overall well-being.

Objective 3 - Support local organizations working to increase equitable access to education in its various forms while empowering communities of creators and learners to achieve their potential.

Objective 4 - Celebrate and promote local and indigenous cultures.

All donations through our North Texas Giving Day fundraising will support the areas of most significant need as well as these critical efforts:

● Fall 2024 / Spring 2025 Dental Collaborative Initiative - This program aims to provide dental health care to over 500 children and families living in remote regions of Quispicanchi who lack basic access to health care and suffer from high rates of tooth decay and life threatening oral infection.

● Nutrition Assistance Program - This program provides meals to families in Andahuaylillas, Huaro, and Urcos who cannot otherwise afford them. Currently the program supports roughly 200 families and children. Our nutrition assistance program also includes regular anemia testing and height/weight monitoring.

● Project Sullumayo - This program is rooted in the rural community of Sullumayo located in the Andean highlands. Collaborating directly with community leaders and local social workers we provide defense for women who are victims of spousal abuse and abandonment. Additionally the program works to reduce family violence, provide women's reproductive health education, and educate youth on critical issues of human rights.

● Anti-human trafficking education - The remote regions of Quispicanchi experience some of the highest rates of human trafficking in all of Peru. Collaborating with trained social workers we work to educate parents and youth on the dangers of human trafficking and opportunities for employment and empowerment to provide alternatives to bonded labor in local mines.
