Melly's Fosters works in conjunction with Texas Pawprints Cat and Kitten Rescue to help cats and kittens in need.
In 2016, we rescued a kitten from our backyard that tested positive for Feline Leukemia. I reached out to countless organizations in the DFW area and Texas Pawprints was the only one that offered to help. One of their volunteers helped me understand the idea of maternal antibodies. She encouraged me to keep the kitten isolated and re-test when the kitten was older. If the kitten tested positive when she was older, they offered to help me.
I promised my 8 year old son if we weren't able to keep the kitten, we would foster a mom and litter and pick a kitten. Well as the volunteer told me, the kitten tested negative when re-tested, but my son didn't let me forget about fostering. That summer we foster our first litter, a mom and 7 babies.
Since that time, we have fostered many kitties and have a dedicated foster room. We have cared for moms with large litters, orphans, bottle babies, teens and seniors.
Most recently we have fostered Ellie and her babies. Ellie showed up at our business heavily pregnant. She was scared and smart. She would step over the trip plate to get the goodies from the trap even when it was covered. One weekend we spent 18 hours watching the trap determined to get her. Finally at 10 pm on Sunday night, we got her. She had babies by 10 pm on Wednesday.
You can see Ellie and her babies on our IG page.
Thank you for support our kitties.
