I am honored to be a Board Member of  Readers 2 Leaders and even more excited to launch a personal fundraiser to support our mission of equipping students for success through the power of reading. At Readers 2 Leaders, we’re committed to ensuring that all students have equitable opportunities to thrive as both readers and leaders. With your help, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of the children we serve.

Why I’m Fundraising

This mission hits home and brings forth some of my best childhood memories.  I know that I am a beneficiary of having unlimited access to books, teachers and other educators who fed my curiosity and whimsical fantasies of purple and gold dragons, Wizards who taught magic and reframed life through reading, stacks and stacks of books in the Castles of Knowledge..all while riding my imaginary dragons.

I am reaching out to you today with a heartfelt request from the skies, where my childhood dragon soars from the Kingdom of Literacy. As a supporter and mentor for the next generation of brave dragon riders, it is not only my duty to teach them the ways of the skies but also to guide them in gaining the knowledge that will light the path—the power of reading.

In our world, the Kingdom of Literacy holds countless treasures of wisdom and imagination, and the Castles of Knowledge stand tall with books that can change the future. Yet, many young dragon riders do not yet have the key to unlock these wonders. Without literacy, their flights will remain grounded, their paths obscured by the clouds of illiteracy.

Readers 2 Leaders has begun the noble work of bringing the magic of reading to our young riders, but much more is needed. With your generosity, we can support the wise educators and tutors who dedicate their time to teaching these young souls. We can build more resource centers where our riders can gather to learn, gain confidence, and discover the limitless power of literacy.

These are not just places of learning—they are fortresses and safe spaces where young riders can strengthen their minds and spirits, preparing them to build their own Castles of Knowledge. Your donation will help us provide the resources, the mentorship, and the support that are vital to ensuring every dragon rider is equipped to read, write, and dream without limits.

Facts & Figures

Since its founding in 2011, Readers 2 Leaders has provided services to 7,729 clients, including 6,852 students and 877 adults.

Current Goals:

Readers 2 Leaders aims to reach 1,500 students with reading programs in the 2024-25 school year and the summer of 2025, with the following objectives:

- 85% of students participate in 80% of sessions for 120 minutes of weekly instruction.

- 80% of students attain mastery of grade-appropriate foundational literacy skills.

- 75% of students meet or exceed their personalized end-of-year literacy growth goal as assessed by the MAP assessment tool.

As part of its mission, the organization also plans to support 300 adults through coaching implementation and family reading cohort programs. Our reading programs have demonstrated significant success. In the 2023-24 academic year, 87 percent of students, as measured by Renaissance Star, made tangible progress toward their reading goals.
