I met Jason Dyke, the founder of Carson's Village, in the fall of 2021. He and I were classmates in the Leadership Dallas Class of 2022 #BCE.
The day I met Jason, Sophie was battling a mental health crisis, and on that exact day, it had reached a critical point. At the age of 11, she was struggling with undiagnosed anxiety and ADHD which had started to manifest itself as severe depression with suicidal thoughts. This was a lot for her to handle and we did not know what to do?
As Jaime and I tried to determine what to do to help her, Jaime was directed to a mental health facility here in North Texas. Upon evaluating Sophie, they determined she needed to stay there to protect herself and others. That was devastating for us. We were in despair and in many ways hopeless.
When Jason met me, he asked how my day was going. Unknown to him, I was in a dark place. I was sad and heart broken. I told him my day was not going well and that I was dealing with a personal issue. I explained to situation to him; he looked at me and told me Carson's story.
As you may know, Jason lost Carson to suicide at 11. This story hit me hard. I was sitting there in this discussion with this father at just the right time.
Jason offered me HOPE. He empathized with me and reminded me that despite how dire the circumstances were for us in this moment, Sophie still had A CHANCE. Sophie was ALIVE.
What a powerful moment for the both of us. The rest is history. We have remained friends, and I now serve on the board of directors for Carson's Village.
Dealing with loss is not easy. Sometimes it can be overwhelming. I am grateful for Jason and the team at Carson's Village for providing people in need, the direction, guidance, and support that is necessary upon the loss of a loved one.
Thank you, Jason, for honoring Carson in this manner. Carson is there helping each of these families during their grief and healing.
Please join me in supporting Carson's Village this year with a gift in Sophie honor and Carson's memory.
