North Texas has one of the most challenging urban climates in the United States. The Dallas Metroplex endures oppressive summer heat, limited rainfall, poor soils, and one of the nation’s worst problems with air pollution. Energy costs and usage keeps rising and the urban heat island effect continues to increase temperatures. Residents are at risk and need a solution.
But, the Texas Trees Foundation has a vision for our community.
It is a community comprised of beautiful, well-maintained parks, shady tree-lined streets and boulevards, hiking, biking and nature trails, and other outdoor amenities. These combine to form a living and working environment that enhances the economic value of commercial areas and neighborhoods, and nurtures the health, safety and quality of life of all citizens; a community in which citizens actively participate in building and sustaining the "urban forest."

As a nonprofit, your support of the Texas Trees Foundation helps us do more than just plant trees. It helps us serve as a catalyst in creating a new green legacy for North Texas. We believe in transformational, research-based plans that educate the public to mobilize the social, economic, environmental, and health benefits that trees and urban forestry provide. The Texas Trees Foundation believes in the following core principles:
- Education is essential to changing behavior
- Trees increase the quality of life in communities and are an essential component to sustainable, resilient communities
- Land stewardship is the key to healthy trees, people, and a healthy community
- Trees and people need to be nurtured and celebrated!
Programs that need your help:
* Cool Schools Program: This program connects students and teachers to nature by planting trees and creating fun and engaging outdoor experiential learning and recreation areas. These spaces cultivate children’s knowledge and awareness of the natural environment. We launched this program for the health and well-being of Dallas ISD students and to provide solutions to deal with the effects of urban heat in Dallas.
* Southwestern Medical District: We are reinvisioning the story of The Southwestern Medical District in Dallas, Texas by creating a visionary landscape that enhances the environment, uplifts adjoining neighborhoods and businesses, spurs economic development and nurtures the body, mind and spirit of the more than 4 million individuals who experience the district annually.
* TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm: This tree farm serves as the Foundation’s tree nursery and volunteer site as well as benefiting Dallas by offsetting emissions and energy consumption from the hundreds of trees grown yearly.
* Neighborwoods: This program focuses on making a significant impact by planting trees where they are most needed to equalize people's access to the benefits of trees. Currently Dallas' tree canopy is inequitably distributed and we aim to change that by realizing a more equability environment for all communities in North Texas.
