We are a culturally responsive organization serving the South Oak Cliff community. Education, Advocacy, Community Building and Arts are the categories we use to develop various programs with our community. For Oak Cliff believes in 2-Gen, so we focus on creating opportunities for and addressing the needs of both children and the adults in their lives together with the aim of increasing social mobility and social capital. Our work takes place in the 75216 zip code of South Oak Cliff, in our targeted area that we call "The Superblock". The Superblock is geographically defined by I-35 and I-45 for west and east boundaries and Illinois Ave (as we grow, we would like to push this boundary up to 8th Street) and Ledbetter Dr for north and south boundaries.
Last year, we had a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase and move into the former Moorland YMCA, an ideal site 0.8 miles away from our original community center in the Glendale Shopping Center. Now, in our new For Oak Cliff Community Campus, with 10 acres and 20,000 sq. ft., we are scaling successful programs and launching new initiatives to meet the growing demand to serve the whole Superblock population. This years North Texas Giving Day contributions will significantly support our mission and directly impact our programs and growing our staff to meet our communities needs.
For Oak Cliff provides culturally responsive initiatives in South Oak Cliff to liberate the community from systemic oppression, create a culture of education, and increase social mobility and social capital.
To help support our community-driven programs such as:
Free GED & Phlebotomy courses
After-school activities
Summer festivals
Bi-Monthly Farmers Market
eGaming/Film workshops
Food security and holiday giving
For Oak Cliff believes that we must have an equitable community, city and world. In order for our mission of liberation to come to fruition, we need systems of equity in place that truly serves our people.
